Our facility in Boulder, Colorado has key functions in Research and Development, Operations, Production, and other disciplines. This facility specializes in the manufacturing of ultra-precision optical components, optical thin film coatings and optical sub-assemblies for demanding applications in lasers, materials processing, instrumentation, life sciences, avionics, and defense.

This site offers capabilities that include substantial design and engineering resources, comprehensive optical fabrication and coating capabilities, advanced assembly technology and an extensive in-house metrology lab.

 

We are presently seeking an Apprentice that will produce and inspect precision optical components, apply optical coatings, and assemble optical systems that are used in a broad range of applications including defense, homeland security, aerospace, biomedical equipment, microlithography, digital displays, alternate energy production, and nanotechnology.  In order to be in this apprentice program, you are required to be enrolled in the Optical Technologies Program at Front Range Community College for an associate's degree.  


Main responsibilities:

  • Observe all environmental, health, & safety, and academic requirements of Excelitas and Front Range Community College
  • Engage in learning the range of technical processes that are performed during the manufacturing of our products
  • Integrate feedback and demonstrate a mindset of continual growth
  • Take the initiative to develop a broad technical skill set
  • Build professional relationships with colleagues and make a lasting impression within the organization
  • Maintain the necessary GPA to successfully complete Optical Technologies Program associate degree
  • Must have good communication skills
  • Must be able to clearly see small optical parts and lift 25lbs
  • Performs other duties as assigned

 

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Excel and Word preferred
  • Good time management, critical and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and troubleshooting abilities
  • A growth mindset and passion for learning
  • Taking required credit classes to fulfill academic requirements

 

Benefits start day 1: Medical, Dental, Vision, 401K, Paid Time Off, Holiday Pay, Tuition Reimbursement, Paid Long-term and Short-term disability, Paid Maternity and Paternity leave.  

Pay: $20 per hour with increases as you continue through the program.

Excelitas Boulder is offering optical manufacturing apprenticeships in collaboration with federal, state, and local government to strengthen Colorado’s photonics industry. The apprenticeship will consist of three years of work experience and a concurrent associate degree in the Optical Technologies Program at Front Range Community College.
